The official name of the Italian anthem is "Il Canto degli Italiani" or "The Song of the Italians." It is also known as "Fratelli d'Italia" or "Brothers of Italy."
It was written in 1847 by Goffredo Mameli. Soon after, musician Michele Novaro composed the music.
It became the official anthem of the Republic of Italy in 1946.
